Green Lantern: First Flight

Why is it that DC animated movies are just so good? Every time I watch one, the care that is put into them just amazes me, and this one was no different.

The story deals with Hal Jordan, voiced by Christopher Meloni, as he goes on his first mission as a Green Lantern, under the guidance of Sinestro, voiced by Victor Garber. Bur what seems like a simple mission ends up being a lot more and the fate of the entire universe is at stake.

This film dealt really well with the Green Lantern Corps not trusting Hal as a member and showing him growing and becoming a hero to the surprise of all. I felt Meloni really played the character with the right sense of duty and fun.

The absolute standout to me, though, was Sinestro. Victor Garber is an amazing, yet underrated actor, and watching him portray the many, many layers of Sinestro was very entertaining. He was by far my favorite character of the movie and I feel his character arc was done justice.

Overall, I really enjoyed this film for not only the superheroics, but also the cosmic aspects of the story, and the surprising amount of twists and turns. I'd say this is a pretty solid Green Lantern film and I hope that future films with the character can follow this one's lead.

Next time, we go to a version of the DC Universe where the impossible has happened. Lex Luthor is president of the United States and Superman has been branded a criminal. With the help of Batman, can he overcome this tyranny? Keep an eye open for Superman/Batman: Public Enemies.
