The Incredible Hulk

Well, I certainly was expecting my view on this movie to change a bit more than it ended up being, especially after the underrated masterpiece that was the 2003 film, but I still ended up liking it, although, I do have a few issues I do want to discuss all the same.

This movie is about Bruce Banner, played by Edward Norton, who is on the run from General Thaddeus Ross, played by William Hurt, who wants to use the power of the Hulk to make weapons. Along the way, Bruce reconnects with the general's daughter Betty, played by Liv Tyler, and finds a powerful adversary in Emil Blonsky, or the Abomination, played by Tim Roth.

First and foremost, this film was more of an action packed chase, which I honestly didn't mind too much, since chase scenes always tend to get my blood pumping. We also get a lot more Hulk action with him actively going up against the military and later the Abomination.

Unfortunately, where the original film was more a look into the tortured psyche and split personality of Bruce and the Hulk, this one was more of a standard action film, which gave it less of an identity. I thought the Abomination could have been a fun villain, but instead, they made him into a brute who would make one word threats against the Hulk. The final battle was intense, but felt too much like a kid smashing two action figures together, and not in a good way.

Overall, this is not a bad film, and I think anyone going in would quite enjoy this. However, it blends in with so many other action films to the point where it doesn't really stand out at all, and that's the biggest issue I think.

Next time, we are going to explore an animated anthology film dealing with one of my favorite superheroes of all time. The review will probably be different due to the anthology nature of this upcoming film. Regardless, keep an eye out for Batman: Gotham Knight.
