Iron Man

It is good to be back in the game of reviewing superhero movies, and what a movie this was to review. As I am a big fan of Marvel films, I naturally have a lot of good to say about this one, as it brought the Marvel characters into the public eye like never before.

This film focuses on the origin story of arms dealer Tony Stark, who becomes the armored superhero Iron Man, played by Robert Downey Jr., after being captured by a terrorist organization known as the Ten Rings and learning there is more to Stark Industries than he previously thought.

It's a pretty simple, but effective origin story and it really helps you be able to sympathize with Iron Man as a character, since this is more of a character piece than previous Marvel films, although there is still a fair amount of action. Most of the action was good, especially the ones where he is going up against the terrorists, but the final battle felt choppy and kind of slow to me.

The acting is pretty solid, with Robert Downey Jr., being the snarky man that he is, putting literally his entire personality into the character of Stark and stealing the entire show. I felt the supporting cast, especially Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts and Jeff Bridges as Obadiah Stane, were similarly good at their roles, although this is Downey movie without a doubt.

Overall, a pretty solid start to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and a fun superhero movie in and of itself which I feel was revolutionary at a time when Marvel was not exactly doing the best with their superhero films, and it changed the game on popular cinema completely.

Next time, we get to look into a new version of everyone's favorite green rage monster after his previous movie kind of...well...flopped, not that it was a bad film, of course. Join me next time when I review The Incredible Hulk.
