Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths
I will admit that I was excited for this one. I have had a fascination with the DC Crime Syndicate for awhile, because I love getting to see evil alternate versions of the heroes I know and love, and wow, this movie did not disappoint.
The story follows an alternate universe version of Lex Luthor, played by Chris Noth, who enlists the help of the Justice League in stopping the Crime Syndicate of his universe from destroying reality, courtesy of the sociopathic Owlman, played by James Woods.
I quite liked the visuals and the action was great, with some pretty solid performances throughout. The battles against the Crime Syndicate were a dream come true, because I have wanted to see that play out in a movie for the longest time.
I do feel that they didn't focus much on how corrupt the alternate earth was, which could have been an interesting way to build the world, but they managed to impress me in quite another way: Owlman. His whole character is nihilistic and wants to destroy Earth-Prime, and therefore the multiverse, just because he feels that nothing truly matters and there is no point to making choices. Seeing such a villainous character be played out with a creepy and understated performance from James Woods really was the absolute standout, and the way he is finished off works so well with his character.
Overall, I'd say that this is a pretty solid animated film, and the action is fun and exciting. Again, I say that having a really good villain is what sold this one for me, and I would watch it again just to see his fantastic performance.
Next time, everyone's favorite armored superhero is dying from palladium poisoning, a new villain is on the rise, and the universe grows ever bigger. Will Tony Stark be able to get through this one? Find out when I review Iron Man 2.
